1. I was on my way to Trichy last weekend and the pace of construction on the highway is awesome. At present, the highway from Chennai to Tindivanam is four laned. It is now being extended up to Trichy. And the interesting part is that the construction is taking part along the entire stretch at once. Bridges and over passes are being built simultaneously. India is really shining! And I thought to myself, “What a good time to be alive!?”
2. Every time I travel south, the road towards Chennai seems to be having a traffic jam always. That means that more people are coming to Chennai. Yes, Chennai is growing. Industries are coming up and there are a lot of work opportunities. But if everyone is moving from the villages to the cities, who will stay back to grow food for the millions in the cities?
3. Since the road towards Chennai is always crowded, few drivers take a detour through a rural road between Perambalur and Villupuram. The bus that I was in, also took this road. Unfortunately, a bus before us had hit a cart and toppled it. [The animals were safe but the some portion of the harvest was lost.] The villagers immediately started protesting against the use of the rural road. It was midnight and this protest caused a huge pile up. Thankfully, the police arrived and pacified the crowd. It was almost about an hour before we were able to move again.
4. He is my favorite actor. Most of the roles that he takes up are such that no one else can play it. Though, it is an old movie of his, I got the opportunity to watch it only last week. And I have no words to describe his acting. Tom Hanks is simply brilliant in Philadelphia. Add to it, we have another super star in Denzel Washington. I need to watch the movie again.
5. Few years back, three students were killed in the Dharmapuri bus burning incident. It goes without saying on how much political mileage the DMK gained out of it. And now, it is the turn of the AIADMK. They got just what they wanted.
6. On the last day of college last year, I was laughing at folks who had sad faces. There was also this guy who cried!! I just couldn’t understand how you could “part” with someone in this age of Gmail, GTalk, Orkut, SMS and with mobile operators falling head over heels to reduce talk charges. But this week, I parted with three friends. The probability of meeting them ever again is almost 0. And in spite of all the tech blah blah I did last year, I feel a little sad [stoic me: limit extending to zero] now. Sigh!
7. Life has this amazing quality: It just goes on. No matter what, whether it is death or sickness or suffering or whatever, it just goes on…
